CAMBRIDGE, ON – Kathy (Kass) McKenna, 56, of Cambridge, Ontario died August 23, 2011, after a brief, but brave, battle with cancer.
Kathy was born in Toronto on April 27, 1955. She graduated from Parkside High School, Windsor, ON., completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Windsor, Windsor, ON., and received her Masters of Education at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC.
Kathy was a popular teacher at Monsignor Doyle Secondary School where she instilled her lifelong passion for learning to her many attentive and some not so attentive students. When not working, Kathy enjoyed reading, baking and most importantly, spending time with her beloved family.
She is survived by her affectionate and loving parents, Robert Kirkland Mason and Mary Margaret Mason, Dundas, ON., her adoring children, Brendan Reed McKenna, Cambridge, ON., Tannis Kathleen McKenna, Manhattan, NY., Madeleine Elizabeth McKenna, Cambridge, ON., Meaghan Maureen McKenna, Cambridge, ON., her compassionate siblings, Robert and Susan Mason, Detroit, MI., Andrew and Heather Mason, Cambridge, ON., Ron and Jane McVeetors, Edmonton, AB., Peter Mason and fiancé Marie Lee, Edmonton, AB., Tim Mason, Edmonton, AB., Mary Anne Mason, Halifax, NS., Phillip Mason, Thunder Bay, ON., Tom and Michelle Mason, Cambridge, ON. Her many nieces and nephews; Thea, Jordan, Melissa, Andrew, Lora, Phil, Alex, Tori, Lexi, Hunter, Clay, Nick, Conor, Jesse, Mary, Thomas, Elizabeth, Henley, her great nephew Mason along with her loving aunts and uncles: Olive and Phil Mihorean, Joan and Dan Humeniuk, Barbara Ellis and Bernadette Padmore and Isabel Ryan will truly miss her warm and caring spirit.
The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge (519-653-3251) on Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, 745 Duke Street, Cambridge on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10am. A reception will follow after at the family home.

One of Kathy’s favorite sayings was from the Jazz musician Eubie Blake,” Listen to the wind, pay the thunder no mind and don’t hurt nobody.” She lived her life always looking out for the welfare of others. She will be greatly missed.
