John was born in Braga, Portugal and moved to Canada in 1961 to give his family a better life. Through hard work and dedication he started his own company doing custom bricklaying.
He had many hobbies and interests that included gardening, growing his own food, winemaking, fishing and woodworking. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would find a way to learn how. He found comfort in the outdoors and was a lover of all animals (except squirrels). In warm weather, he enjoyed napping outside under his grapevines where he could hear the birds chirping. John always looked forward to all family gatherings. His presence will be greatly missed.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Ferreira; his children Mary Lou Figueiredo (George), Joe Ferreira and Paul Ferreira (Krista); proud grandfather to Jonathan, Kyle (Heather), Ryan (Jess) and Danielle (Bryan) and avô to Antonio and Thomas whom he adored. He was predeceased by his parents Miquelina and Antonio; sisters Angelina, Joaquina, Theresa, Aurora and Rosa; son Adrian Ferreira and granddaughter Matilda.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care he received. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Church, 210 South St., Cambridge on Saturday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will take place at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.couttsfuneralhome.com for the Ferreira family.
