Gary passed away with his family by his side on November 17, 2016 at the age of 69. Adored husband of Mary and devoted father to Steven (Catherine), Barbara (Brendan), Bill (Christine) and Joanne (2012). Predeceased by his wife Willie (2011). Loving grandfather of Josh, Sarah, Tori, Taylor, Thomas, Kiera and great-grandfather to Dominic. Honourary father of Denise (Rick), Leslie and Laura. Will forever be remembered by his brother David(Rhonda). Gary was an angel on earth; always having time for everyone and always extending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He lived his life with great respect and love for all people. He served his community by starting the drop in program ‘Out of the Cold’ at the Lions Club which developed into him becoming a long-time, valued employee of Cambridge Shelter Corporation. Gary was one of the founders of Welcome Aboard Drop-In Centre at the Bridges (est. 2005) working with the homeless and vulnerable, which later became a respected and successful program of the shelter. He quickly became the face in the community before his recent retirement; Gary took on the role of Community Relations Manager. In his career, Gary accepted many humanitarian awards for his outreach work.
Gary touched many lives in his career and accepted every person who came through the door. “We have to help our neighbours.” were words that Gary spoke and lived by. We have lost a cherished member of our community and he will be greatly missed.
