Verne passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 96 years. He was the youngest of eight siblings born on the family homestead in Bingley, AB and he is the last of his generation.
While growing up on the family farm it was chores, school through to grade 9. As a teen he worked in bush camps until he enlisted in the army. Verne was in basic training and waiting to be deployed when the war ended. He left the army and went to school to become an auto body mechanic where he worked the better of 40 years with Superior Paint & Body. In 1948 he married Elsie Jean McKee (Jean) and they were together until she passed away in 2009.
Verne is survived by his children Robert (Pat) Biswanger of Calgary, Diane Biswanger of Bakersfield, California; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Verne enjoyed playing golf right to his last game at 93, bowling, shuffleboard and rousing game of cribbage. Verne and Jean moved to the Westview Lodge in 2008 and he continued to live at the Westview Lodge after Jean passed away.
