Died in Victoria, B.C. in her eightieth year with her husband Bill de Haas, by her side. She is survived by her sister, Doris J. May. Born in Ontario, she graduated from Toronto General Hospital in Nursing, gained several years’ experience there and then moved to Calgary working in several positions at Foothills Hospital from 1966 to 1978. She enjoyed the challenge of nursing and believed in its lifelong benefits as a vocation, particularly for woman.
Vera and Bill were married in 1974 and had an instant family with three children; Jenny, Vim, and Ian. The children were paramount and the whole family enjoyed skiing, hiking (not everyone!), swimming and water skiing. Later, Vera continued study in Italian Renaissance History at U of C completing an MA in 1979. More nursing and history ensued, but late in life, Vera and Bill travelled, enjoyed biking, sailing and nature. She loved gardening.
