Ursula was born May 15, 1935 in Bonn, Germany the eldest of three girls to Friedle and Carl. She trained as a nurse in Hamburg, Germany and immigrated to Canada at age 21. She arrived in Calgary in 1956 on a Friday and began her nursing career on the following Monday at the Calgary General Hospital in the maternity ward. She loved her work, caring for newborns. She married Leonard Knight in 1958, this year would be their 60th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard; her three children, Robert (Marija), Charles and Susan (Joel); her two sisters in Germany, Elizabeth and Uta; and her three grandchildren, Thomas, Klara and Olive.
She had many interests and pursuits, the arts and nature chief amongst them. An artist from an early age she realized a dream by obtaining her Bachelor of Fine Arts when in her fifties. She loved the mountains, hiking skiing, alpine and cross country, all animals and plants. She was an avid member of the Calgary Naturalist’s Society and a supporter of many animal and nature charities. Her artwork included printmaking, painting, batik, and ceramics. She loved live theater and was a 30 year season ticket holder to theater Calgary. She read deeply and widely, Canadian authors being a favorite, attending many readings and discussing and debating at many book clubs. She loved to travel and her family was fortunate to have been able to share many memorable traveling experiences with her. She loved life, was positive, wise and generous. She would encourage everyone to feel the sun on their face, listen to the songs of the birds and the smells of the flowers.
