Mr. Thomas Chong Yee Louis

Thomas Chong Yee Louis, of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at the age of 90 years. He was born in Toisan, Guangdon in southeast China and immigrated to Canada in 1949.

Thomas was the cherished and dearly loved husband of 67 years to May Miu Ling. He will be dearly missed by his daughters Dorothy (Laurin) and Nora; sons Michael and Norman (Jennyffer); grandchildren Matthew (Vanessa), Sarah, Roy (Julia), Skyler (Iulian), Benton and great grandchildren Arie and Bear; his half-brothers Soon and Archie; half-sister Wanda and nephews Timothy and Justin (Tara). He is predeceased by his father Chow Louis, his mother and stepmother Fong Sue Louis.

Thomas will forever be remembered for his commitment to family, and as a kind, gentle soul and dedicated provider to his family and friends. He worked many years as an accomplished chef at many restaurants including Canadian Cafe, Corner Cafe and last worked with his dear and longtime friend Peter Eng at Exchange Cafe/Engs Garden for over 20 years before finally retiring in 1990. He was an affiliate with the Calgary Sue Yuen Benevolent Association where he served as Treasurer and developed many friendships during his tenure.

Thomas wanted the best life and retired to focus efforts and commitment to his family. This included spending time with his grandchildren taking them to and from school, cooking meals, getting together with his friends in a game of Mahjong from time to time, caring for his many flowering plants at home and to joyfully plant his vegetable garden with his family every spring till the age of 90. He was an avid Calgary Flames and Stampeders fan.

He will continue to shine brightly in our hearts. His kind and generous soul will forever be cherished and he will be missed very much.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Rockyview General Hospital staff on Unit 72 for their gentle care of Thomas.

A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.

Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
