Siegfried was born September 28, 1929 in Ratibor, Germany. In 1954, he arrived in Canada becoming a Canadian Citizen in 1963.
Siegfried will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Victoria, his youngest son Dirk and his grandchildren Sandra, Erika and Riley. He was predeceased by his eldest son Rex Bernard Voelkel; his mother Agnes (Dzierzon) Völkel and his father Karl Völkel.
Siegfried started his career in Power Engineering at the Spy Hill Jail then moved onto working at SAIT, where he completed his Second Class Power Engineering Certification. He then started working for the City of Calgary Library Maintenance Department as a Facility Manager before retiring at the age of 63. Siegfried was very passionate about family; being punctual and living life simply. He loved watching curling and golf from a spectator’s point of view as well as keeping up to date with daily political and current events.
A gathering to celebrate the life of Siegfried will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
