Shirley lived and enjoyed her life to the fullest. Born in Darmoody, Saskatchewan, she had fun as a child and wanted for nothing. She enjoyed tending to her farm animals and helping her dad at his pool hall. When mom was in her teens the family moved to Calgary where she would soon meet the love of her life at a movie theatre. His name was Ron McKenna. After a short courtship, there were married in Calgary in 1954. 1954 to 2018 – what a milestone for years being married. They were happily married for 64 years! Mom loved to cook, bake, and had a passion for flower and vegetable gardening, reading (she could read a novel in 2 weeks). She read hundreds of books, knitting, hiking, camping and fishing with dad (when us kids were old enough, we got to go too) petite pointe and the list goes on and on. She also worked. First at or dad’s printing shop, an insurance company and finally she hit her milestone working for 2 brothers who were doctors; Dr. Bob and Dr. Bruce. Mom retired when they did. She had a passion for and was mom to at least 8 miniature dachshunds. She spoiled her dogs rotten. Mom had a happy, fulfilled life. That’s why she shined at everything she did.
