I had the pleasure of having had the opportunity to speak to Ryan for a bit during my university years. We both majored in similar degrees, and I imagine we both struggled through the same labs and assignments together but we made it through. I have a vivid memory of Ryan and I standing in front of our lab as we waited for our TA to finish up with a session he had before ours. He was late! That left little time for conversation between Ryan and I so, we joked about our classes and our assignments. Ever since then Ryan has left a memorable impression on me as he was kind, funny, and every synonym for the word 'awesome'. It has been years since I had graduated from school but I still remember that moment. I am at loss for words at the occasion. I do hope that Ryan knows of the wonderful impact he has relayed on everyone he knew and whose hearts he touched. 

Ryan was such a lovely, gentle, soul.  I grew up with his Mother, Lily, in Calgary and went to High School with her.  We kept in touch through the years and I would often receive family photos and get together with them every once in awhile to catch up on old times.  I know that Lily and Thomas were very proud of Ryan and loved him unconditionally.  I last saw them this past summer in Victoria, B.C. during one of their family holidays.  I got a big bear hug from Ryan along with a lovely bright smile and that is how I will remember this kind, gentle, soul.  My love and sympathy goes out to Lily, Thomas and their family during this difficult time.  There is another angel in Heaven and his wings are large.

Ryan and I had known each other for just over 4 years. We both met through our love for the health and wellness classes offered at work.  He was my yoga buddy, my bootcamp buddy, my kickboxing buddy, my spin buddy, my dietician buddy. If I ever bumped into him in the hallways we would easily spend 30 minutes just talking.  If I was ever working late i knew he would too since he dedicated himself to work every single day.  He worked hard at everything I had seen him do. 

This world is a much less happier place without Ryan. You will be missed sorely by everyone who loved you.  

I worked with Ryan on a complex project and was amazed at how quickly grasped the details with having no prior knowledge. It was entertaining just to watch how fast he could take notes, and then to be astounded later and how thorough and organized they were. But, I will always remember what a bright and sunny presence he was even in mundane settings. He just had a way of lightening the mood wherever he went.

I only really knew Ryan because I got to see his smiling face in the spin studio but I was always excited when we got to ride together. He always had such a calm confidence, strong determination and, of course, that illuminating smile! His focused drive and encouraging attitude was a powerful, positive presence in every ride. 

I'm grateful for the opportunity to have known Ryan. Sending my most heartfelt condolences to Ryan's family and friends. 

I knew Ryan as a child & saw him grow through the years to be a fine, young man - bounteously humane. He was such an enormous encouragement to me & the very breath of fresh air I most needed when he gallantly helped me at a time-crunched big event. It was the way he exuded such inner graciousness & understanding even in the littlest, knowing they all added up to something much grander. A highly gifted gentleman. Our deepest heartfelt sympathies to the entire Chew family, my family & I very much feel for you in your loss. Deeply grieving with heartaches & tears, we send you all our love, prayers, fortitude, & comfort from across the Pacific. Ryan, you remain alive in our hearts - a bright light - & will be more than sorely missed. Love lives on. May everyone’s ongoing expressions of love, care, & concern lift & carry you Thomas, Lily, & your extended families through your deepest grief in the months & years ahead. Although I didn’t know Ryan personally, I felt like I did.  I worked with Ryan’s Mom
Lily for 2 years.  Lily talked so lovingly and proudly of Ryan.  💗  My condolences to  Lily and the entire family.

The world has lost a wonderful person. I only met Ryan a couple of times as my niece, Keara Hayes, is a good friend of his. They met at Centennial High School.  When I first met Ryan,  I remember being impressed by his kindness and gentle heart.  I also loved his laugh and his infectious smile. I enjoyed hearing many stories of the fun he and Keara had through the years. Words do not seem enough to express my sympathy to all those who were privileged to know him well. Ryan brought a lot of happiness to many people and he will be dearly missed.  

I was introduced to Ryan as a co-worker and I had the pleasure of working with him on several different teams. He was a supportive team member, who was an intelligent, kind, inspirational and funny person. My most treasured memories of Ryan are those moments when he could brighten your day with his smile and his unique laugh. Due to my age I was not able to keep up with the younger members in our yoga class, Ryan showed his kindness by offering words of support to keep going and not to compare myself to the others in the class.  I am very sorry for the Chew family’s heart-breaking loss. Ryan was a truly unique and genuine person who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I met Ryan on a yoga retreat a couple years ago. I was immediately drawn to his infectious personality, sense of humour and outlook on life. He made such an impression in such a short time. His smile was contagious.
I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

I was Ryans hairstylist for the last 6 years and I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. Ryan was a kind charasmatic soul and was always a pleasure to see. He mad me laugh and made me smile and he will truly be missed. All the best to his family and again so sorry for your loss.

Ryan and I went to school together for many years, and I will always remember him fondly as a kind, caring and smart person. He will be missed.

I haven’t seen Ryan since Junior High, but I remember him fondly as being an incredibly bright spirit. I always saw him laughing and loudly joking with everyone. Ryan's capacity for kindness had no boundaries and I will forever remember his energy and contagious spirit, a shining light for so many of us that had the blessing of Ryan in our lives. He taught me a lot and I will be forever grateful for the blessing of him in my life. All my love and prayers to you, his family - I can only imagine the depth of the Ryan-sized hole in your lives :(
