Rodney was the most kind and  honest man one could hope to meet. We could talk to him for hours, mostly about wood but it always strayed into other areas where his sage words would always add to the conversation. His skill was impeccable and a pleasure to observe. We have several pieces of his work and we shall remember him each time we see them. Our condolences to his family. Simon's uphostery skill and Jackie's chair buying ability made a great firm. He will be missed but remembered by many whose lives he touched.

Remembering Rodney my Brother

In the quiet beauty of a lovely summers night,

We were so desperately sorry to hear the sad news of Rodney's passing.  Our sincere thoughts and condolences go to Jackie, Simon, Tina and all the family.  We continue to miss them in the village.

Each life touches this world like no others can leaving not only wonderful memories, buy lasting imprints in our hearts.

I write this tribute sitting comfortably on one of several chairs Rodney sold us over the years. 
Vivien and I were desperately sad to hear of Rodney's passing. He always had a ready smile, a warm personality and a fund of stories whenever we popped into the Antique Chair Shop for a chat - or to do a deal!
Let's not forget that the whole village owes Rodney a debt of gratitude. He was chairman of the Kirstead Parish Council for many years and served us well.  
Our thoughts are with the family he leaves behind and especially Jackie and Simon who will miss him terribly.

It is with much sadness that we send our thoughts to both Jackie and Simon at the loss of Rodney. The 'Antique Chair Shop', directly across from where we live, constantly reminds us of you all.

Rodney and indeed Jackie too, made us feel most welcome when we arrived in Kirstead.  Always ready to chat and share a moment, life in Kirstead was much richer due to Rodney's unending supply of wisdom, wit and attentiveness. The Friends of Walpole Old Chapel in Suffolk  remember Rodney's kindness and interest in the old chapel and whenever we see the chairs he lovingly restored out of the kindness of his heart for us he will be remembered. His was a generous and open spirit and we offer our condolences to the family.

Pieter and l have had the great pleasure of being in the company of such a lovely couple, Jac and Rodney. During these times Rodney was the perfect gentleman.  We shared some rather special moments this year with both of them, such as going to the Opera, fishing at Pine Coulee, special
dinners where Rodney tried to explain to me his favorite poem by Thomas Hardy. These moments l will treasure.  l feel my life has been enriched by knowing Rodney and he will be deeply missed by both Pieter and myself. God bless you Rodney and blessings to Jac, Tina, Todd, Harrison, Simon and Alex.

Sadly we have only known Rodney and Jac for about 5 years. Although we lived in the same village as Rodney for about fifteen years we seldom wandered down to the posh end where their Antique chair shop business was. We met like old fishermen's wives not waiting for a fishing boat but a fish van.
Whilst waiting we discovered we had many common interests, a love of walking in the countryside foraging for wild food. Woodwork, although I did explain that I would have burnt most of the items they restored to their former glory. Kayaking and boating were they got us back into kayaking, something we had not done for about forty years. We had several memorable trips including a champagne (Cava) lunch when we launched our new canoe. We enjoyed many countryside walks where due to Rodney's navigational skills we always ended up at the right pub normally on time.
He also managed to persuade Glynis to vacate her bed at about four am for a dawn chorus walk  (a feat I never achieved in thirty years) although his skill at getting the birds up as well was missing.
The walk lasted about an hour followed by a four hour breakfast!
It was not long before they emigrated to Canada. We kept in touch and stayed with Rodney and Jac in Maine where we made to feel very welcome and enjoyed sailing, kayaking, fishing, walking and eating  Rodneys beer butt chicken for the first time. Not to mention the lobsters but for Rodney  being an East coast boy, crabs are ahead of lobsters on the gourmet list. Glynis had the pleasure of flying Rodney over Maine in a float plane although Rodney looked a picture strapped in the back awaiting lift off with a look of something akin to absolute terror on his face.
 We are lucky to have met him and truly enjoyed his company and sense of humour. We are short of a master craftsman but one who has left a wonderful legacy of restored antique furniture and miniature chairs. We will miss him greatly.

Rodney showed an immense talent that brushed off onto others.A craftsman second to none. A great friend and neighbour. Our deapest sympathy.

Rodney's life was a splendid example of loving service to others. His many kindnesses to us, his remarkable sense of humor, and his joy of life, friends, and family all remain in our memories -- to say nothing of his wonderful skill in making beautiful things. We thank God for Rodney and commit him to the Lord's loving care. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. With love and thanks always.

We met Rodney and Jacquie just this year, by chance at a concert. Our mutual interest in wood and woodcraft, and the few visits exchanged since then made them feel like old friends. Our local woodworking club, SAWS, is fortunate to have some of Rodney's exquisite model chairs in its ongoing Exhibition - a wonderful legacy of his work. Chuck and Mary Holder,Calgary.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
