It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden death of Richard Allen Cooper on October 28, 2020 at the age of 64. Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years Louanne, his son Mitchell and wife Celine, his daughter Georgina and his two grandchildren Bo and Olive. He is predeceased by his father Murray Wright Cooper and leaves behind his loving mother Joan Cooper; his Brother Michael and wife Clodagh; his brother Todd; his sister Susan and husband Mackie and his brother David and wife Rhonda. Dick will also be remembered by his loving extended family of sister and brother in laws; nieces and nephews and dearest of friends.
Dick was born in North Bay, Ontario and soon after moved to New Liskeard, Ontario. Dick excelled at everything he put his mind to, starting with his passion for sports at a very young age. This continued throughout his life, but for Dick golf truly was his game. He attended the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario and graduated in 1979 with his undergraduate degree in Mathematics. In the fall of the same year he also obtained his Charted Accountant designation. Shortly after, he also obtained his professional designation as a Certified Management Consultant.
Dick had a long and distinguished career with Deloitte. His journey began in 1976 as a young Co-Op student with Touche Ross in Ottawa, Ontario. His time with Deloitte spanned over 37 years until he retired in 2013 as the Global Consulting Leader, Energy and Resources. Throughout his years as part of the Deloitte community, Dick made a significant contribution and impact within his leadership roles in Canada, The Americas and globally. As a valued Consulting Partner of 25 years he was recognized as a strong leader, a strategic and innovative thinker and a support to many. He was a role model, a teacher, and a mentor and he valued the friendships he made. Additionally, Dick’s contribution to the Arts community extended from Winnipeg, Manitoba where he was on the board of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, to Calgary, Alberta as a long standing board member and contributor to the Calgary Opera.
In the face of battling two significant diseases Dick was a courageous and stoic man. He had a unique ability to will his way through these most difficult of challenges and he did this with unparalleled strength and dignity.
Most importantly Dick’s greatest joy was his family. His immense love and dedication were evident throughout his entire life. Dick was also thrilled to become a grandfather to Bo and Olive. He was the most amazing Husband and Father, Papa and Brother, Son and Friend and he will be missed tremendously forever.
Dick was always known and loved for his tremendous sense of humour and his extremely quick wit which brought laughter and happiness to many. He will always be remembered as a man who lived his life with integrity and who was humble, kind and generous. Richard Allen Cooper was an incredible human being who led a remarkable life.
