Michael "Mike" Gordon Lahey

Michael “Mike” loving father, husband, son, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his residence in Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, January 12, 2023. His family is deeply saddened by his unexpected death.

Mike was a rare born and raised Calgarian, born on March 2, 1962 to Ronald and Joan Lahey. He was a new little brother to Patrick. The family spent their early years in the NW neighbourhood of Brentwood in Calgary. He attended St. Francis High School, graduating in 1980. After high school, Mike worked at Sears along with his mom. He soon followed in his dad and older brother’s footsteps to Air Canada in 1983. Mike was a proud company man who loved his job working on the runway as a ramp attendant. He retired in April 2018 after 35 years of dedicated service

In 1987, Mike met Sharon and her seven year old son Raymond. Mike and Sharon married in 1989, and soon after bought their first home together in the NE neighbourhood of Temple. They grew their family over the next several years, welcoming son Jared in 1990 and daughter Kasey in 1994. The family has many happy memories of BBQs and Stampede parties from those years.

Mike loved watching sports, especially cheering on the Montreal Canadians and the Cincinnati Bengals, and listening to classic rock music. He loved his family more than anything and was a friend to everyone he met. He will be lovingly remembered for his kind, good hearted and accepting nature. Mike will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Mike is survived by his mom, Joan Lahey, wife Sharon, sons Jared, Raymond LeBel (Lisa), daughter Kasey (Nic), grandchildren Kyle Forget and Julia LeBel, and many extended family members and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Patrick Lahey in 1976, and father Ronald Lahey in 1997.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street NW, Calgary, (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
