Mary Blanche Savill passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2015 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 95 years. She was a native Calgarian born the youngest daughter of Sam and Sarah (nee Wilson) Johnston on Kalvin Grove Farm that is now mostly flooded by the Glenmore Reservoir. As a girl, she moved to Symon’s Valley during the depression where she helped the family start a new farm, and working the farm with her father while her brothers fought in World War II. Blanche married Walter Ernest Savill after the war, settling in a new home on 12 Avenue and partnering with her husband in a new garage business. When Ernie retired in 1960 the couple embarked upon entrepreneurship, crafts, old cars and volunteering. They enjoyed years of travel, golf and curling. After Ernie passed away in 1998 Blanche lived wonderful years filled with family, friends, volunteer positions, travel and grandchildren. Blanche is survived by her sons Walter (Trish) and Douglas (Carol); her grandchildren Shauna Savill (Ian Idle), Martin (Brandi) Savill, Marshall (Marta) Savill, Leigh (Kyle) DeLong, Philip (Karen) Savill, Wesley Savill, as well as her great grandchildren Grace, Warren, Elena, Amy and Kaeley. She was the last survivor of a large family predeceased by brothers Bill, Sam and Bob Johnston and sisters Nan Black, Mat Postill and Marion Hare. Forever remembered in the hearts of Family and Friends. A Celebration of Blanche’s Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend Tracy Robertson officiating.
