Sorry to hear about Martin's passing, Paivi and family, I have many memories of Martin at First Alliance, and spend many prayers and coffees with Martin and I will never forget the Promise Keepers Trip to Boulder Colorado, with 7 of us in a van. Lot's of laughs and lots of sharing.

As two Dutchmen, we had a lot of fun sharing our heritage and our faith.

I first met Martin and Paivi at an Alpha course about 9 years ago. It was difficult to forget them. They were both so on fire for the Lord it was infectious! A few years later I had been looking to join a small group in the South West. One afternoon just over five years ago I received a phone call from Martin and was invited to join them in their home. They both made me feel like a part of the family. Martin was the ultimate host. I really enjoyed listening to his view points and the light-hearted bantering between Martin and Paivi. Those of us who continue to belong to the group will sorely miss him. My life is richer for knowing Martin. He had a way of teaching and sharing. We are blessed to know that he has gone to his heavenly home now.

I worked with Martin at SNC-Lavalin and he taught me a lot about oil and gas estimating. He was a great friend and I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Martin, Regards, Bill Gray.


Dear Martin, you are with the Lord our Father now in full love and peace. As I write this, I already miss your presence a lot, but in Lord’s plan I find a little place of peace, as I know that you are in your heavenly home now.

I met Martin and Paivi at the Encounter God retreat about three years ago. We reconnected again about two years ago when Paivi became a patient of mine. Since then, Paivi and Martin have been so kind to my husband Simon and I, and often invited us over to their home for delicious bbq’s and dinners. 

Martin, in my few brief years of knowing him, had this incredible love, kindness, and faith that seemed to always pour out of him, this overflow kind of love! When I was in his presence, I always wanted to linger a little longer, his eyes and kind words always made me feel warm. Every time I saw Paivi and Martin looking into each other’s eyes and making little jokes with each other, and sometimes even making good-nature fun of each other, I couldn’t help but to smile, laugh, and hope that my marriage with Simon will also continue to grow and flourish to be like theirs in God’s plan as years go by. 

 The last few weeks has been a difficult shock for me, his illness came fast and aggressively.  No person could have prepared for something unexpected such as this. But his strength and faith in God through all of it was incredible, Paivi has been so strong through it all as well through her faith. I have never seen any patients or families handling such a situation with so much strength and faith like theirs, I thank God for this.

I am certain that Martin has touched so many people’s hearts, with his words, his kindness, his love, and through his faith, even till the very end of his days on earth. I know he has touched my life in this way. Martin, I am so thankful to God to have known you in my life. Simon and I both love you and Paivi so much. Your life will always encourage me in my walk with God, thank you!
