Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Joseph, her son Frank (Dee O’Reilly) daughter Mary Lynn (Dean Koch); two grandchildren, Brendan, and Amanda (Julio) and her two sisters- in-law Greta Ryan and Peg Ryan, as well as many other relatives in Ireland.
Margaret Mary Ryan was born to Mary Ellen and Thomas Ryan April 7th, 1934 in Dublin, Ireland. The family moved to Doon, County Limerick when she was 3 and was raised by her mother, with her three brothers Paddy, Thomas (Sonny), and Richard (Dicksie).
Margaret attended the Convent of Mercy in Doon, County Limerick until she was 18. Margaret worked in the post office in Dundrum, where she caught the eye of her true love Joe O’Reilly and they dated for a few years before Joe came to Canada in search of work. Two years later, Joe went back to Ireland to ask for Margaret’s hand in marriage.
They were married in Calgary March 6th, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They purchased their home in Thorncliffe and raised their two children, Frank, and Mary Lynn. They lived a wonderful life together, making many trips back home to Ireland, as well as many other trips around the world.
Margaret loved camping, they spent many years in the Sundre area, making wonderful memories with their camping friends. She loved spending time with her family and was so proud of her two grandchildren, Brendan, and Amanda. Many knew Margaret to have a quick wit, a great sense of humor and loved the Craic.
We will miss you dearly Nana.
A Memorial Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday July 9th, 2021 at 2:00 pm.
