Lyn Quon Chow

Lyn leaves to mourn his wife of 60 years Betty, sons Sidney (Sandra) Chow of Vancouver, BC, Wesley (Nelly) Chow of Calgary, daughter Nina (Fraser) Runzer of Calgary; grandchildren Matthew and Emily Chow, Jonah and Ethan Chow, and Riley and Camryn Charriere. He was predeceased by his father Joseph Chow in 1971, his mother Toy May Chow in 1994 and grandson Brettyn Charriere in 2014.

Lyn was born in China on November 20, 1937, and immigrated to Canada in 1951 to Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

Lyn graduated from the Faculty of Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1964, and worked as an electrical engineer and Head of the Information systems department for 36 years at Manitoba Hydro. He was a proud member of the Professional Engineering Society of Canada, and in his later years, he worked diligently with many community associations in Chinatown.

In particular, the Wing Kei Christian Nursing Home Association, where he was a trustee and board of director. He was the current President of the United Calgary Chinese Association (UCCA) as well as a Board member of the Calgary Chinatown Development Foundation. Lyn loved to help people, he was always willing to assist anyone with their requests. He was a very respected and eager member of many groups and associations. One of his proudest moments was when his committee received an official apology from the Prime Minister of Canada, at the time Stephen Harper, for the head tax that was levied to all Chinese immigrants in the early 1900’s. He was also personally involved in the creation and construction of all three Wing Kei Care Centres in Calgary. “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”... A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 2 p.m. Viewing and prayers will be held at Fosters Garden Chapel on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
