Lana May Jee Yee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 83 years. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Robert Yee, three children - Calvin (Phyllis), Florence (Michael), Jason (Wendy) - and grandchildren - Jeffrey and Eric So, Taylor Yee, Skylar and Carys Yee.
Lana will be fondly remembered by her brother, John Wong (Pauline), and his children, Tracy (Dac) and Stanley (Karlie). She is predeceased by her father, Doi Yoi Wong, and mother, Wai Ching Wong.
Lana was born in Toishan, Guangdong, China, on November 21, 1941. She immigrated in 1957 with her mother and brother to Hong Kong, where she received her high school education. She was introduced to her husband, Robert, by the late Esther Wong, former wife of cousin, the late Len Wong, both of whom lived in Calgary, Canada. She married Robert in 1962 in Hong Kong, then immigrated to Calgary, where she lived ever since.
In addition to raising a family, Lana helped manage the family business in Calgary. Through her and Robert's efforts over decades, many members of extended family were able to immigrate to Canada.
In retirement, Lana enjoyed travelling with her husband all over the world and often visited Hong Kong, where Florence and Jason lived. In 2014, Lana developed an infection in her lung on a return trip from Hong Kong and slowly deteriorated in health over the past 10 years. She suffered from bronchiectasis, an inflammation and infection of the bronchial tubes.
The Yee family is grateful to Dr. Kate Skolnik and team of the Bronchiectasis Clinic at the University of Calgary, Dr. Robert Wong and his mother Ada Wong, and the Respiratory Unit at Foothills Medical Centre for providing medical support to their mother.
