She is survived by her son John, brother Bob Sasaki, sisters-in-law Kiyo Koyanagi, Doris Sasaki, Elsie Sasaki; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kay was predeceased by her parents Choichi and Haru Sasaki (from Agarimachi, Tottori-ken, Japan); brothers Ken Sasaki, Jim Sasaki; sisters-in-law Suzumi Uyeda, Misao Kadonaga, Catherine Koyanagi; brothers-in-law Go Uyeda, Walter Koyanagi, Tadashi Koyanagi, Koji Kadonaga and her husband Chikara (Chik) Koyanagi.
Born on October 19, 1926 in Rosedale, BC, her family moved to Mission, BC in 1932 and farmed there until 1942 when they were relocated to Coalhurst, Alberta during the relocation of Japanese Canadians from the West Coast. Kay eventually went to business school in Calgary, got married to Chik and worked in Personnel Admin at Pacific Petroleums until the birth of her son, John.
Kay will be remembered for her kindness, empathy and interest in handicrafts. She volunteered for over 25 years at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Her sewing, knitting, embroidery and tapestry creations were displayed throughout her home.
Thanks to the staff at Bow View Manor for Kay’s care over her last few years.
Kay will be reunited with her husband, Chik, at Queen’s Park Cemetery in a private Celebration of Life in the future.
