It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Joseph “Joe” Steven Hribnak. Joe passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the age of 81. Joe was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.
Joe was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Marie and Joseph Hribnak on December 28, 1942. He grew up in Raymond Alberta. Joe started working at a young age, he worked for the McIntyre Ranching Company and later he went on to work at Scamper in Lethbridge.
Joe met his future bride of almost 59 years Tina Coninx in Raymond. They married in 1965 and moved to Calgary. They went on to have 5 children the oldest son Jim, a set of triplet sons, Richard, Robert, and Raymond and finally a daughter Jennifer.
Joe worked up north at Pacer and Western Geophysical but with a growing family at home, he decided to find employment closer to his family. Joe started working at Canada Packers where he worked for several years before starting at Acre Landscaping where he worked for over 40 years until his retirement.
Joe shared his love of gardening with his father and his love of flowers from his mother. Every spring he could not wait to start planting his cucumbers and tomatoes and filling the backyard with flowers. His other favorite pastime was working on his model train set. He would spend hours downstairs fixing and remodeling it. He was always looking for new things to add to it. He was so proud of his train set, and he was more than happy to show everyone his latest work. Joe also loved smoking beef jerky and making garlic sausage with his long-time friend Chris Rusnack. Joe loved the outdoors, he loved to go fishing and he took pride in teaching his children how to fish. He loved to take drives to the mountains for picnics so it is no surprise that he was the happiest when he was out camping. Camping was his “happy place”
Joe was a survivor, he faced many challenges throughout his life, a triple bypass, cancer, and recently several bouts of pneumonia. But Joe was a fighter and his stubbornness not to give up, allowed him to overcome everything that came his way.
Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he will be forever be remembered and dearly missed by his wife Tina, his children Jim, Richard, Robert (Wanda), Raymond (Tammy), Jennifer, his grandchildren, Christopher, Jordyn, Brittany (Greg) and his furry grandchildren, Riley, Bailey, and Sasha. He will lovingly be remembered by his sister Betty (predeceased Bob), brothers John (Donna), and Jim, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his Mother Marie (1993) his Father Joseph (1997) and his sister Mildred (2021).
A Celebration of Life will be held on at South Calgary Funeral Centre (12700 Macleod Trail South Calgary, Alberta) on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
