Jack Frank Fletcher

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jack (Jackie) Frank Fletcher on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at the age of 83 years. Jack was born in Kaslo, BC and raised in the neighbouring town of Ainsworth Hot Springs. Growing up in Ainsworth, he was trademarked as the "baby" of the family by his 4 older and protective sisters, which meant that most of Jack's time was spent helping stock shelves at the family-owned general store. The store remained operational for decades until it was turned into a historical site in the 1980s. Jack moved to Calgary, AB in the late 1950s where he attended Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) to become an electrician. After graduation, he was hired by the Alberta Government Telephone Exchange (AGT, now known as Telus) where he spent his entire career until his retirement in 1992. It was Calgary where Jack also met his wife Patricia (married in 1965) and remained to live and raise his family. Jack had a strong passion for trains. Some of the fond memories of Jack include watching trains pass through the Spiral Tunnel in Mt. Ogden which was the inspiration to most of his model railroading structures. It was only fitting that his accompanying picture was taken while holidaying from Calgary to Vancouver on the Rocky Mountaineer train. Jack will forever be remembered for his witty banter, bottomless stomach and unconditional love for his children and family. Jack is lovingly remembered by, his daughter Michelle Demas; son-in-law Lonnie Demas; granddaughters Makayla and Amelia Demas; son Jay Fletcher; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia Ann Fletcher; sister Mavis Stainer, sister Doris ("Toe") Fyfe, sister Eileen Troniak, and sister Corinne Mahan; parents John Bradley Fletcher ("Pop") and Gladys May Fletcher ("Mum"). At this time a Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Ainsworth Hot Springs, BC. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (www.albertacancer.ca/donate/) in honour of his late wife Patricia.
