With aching hearts, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother Michael Willman on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the age of 74. Predeceased by his brother John, he is survived by his sister Jo-Anne (Ted), daughters Kathy (Daryl) and Brenda (Cameron), grandchildren Jaydon, Keillyn and step-grandchildren Cody, Michael, Sean and Shannon. Michael began his life in the small gold mining town of Bralorne, BC. He often spoke of the wonderful memories of being a child growing up there. This is where he developed his passion for the outdoors, and throughout his life he enjoyed skiing, hiking and playing golf. He was very fortunate to have a career he loved. In 1966 he began instructing at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary and shared his vast wealth of knowledge with multitudes of students. He remained there until leaving the workforce over 30 years later, retiring at the age of 57. He had other priorities. These other priorities included spending his time watching his grandchildren grow up. Countless hours of home video and photographs illustrate the many happy times. How grateful we all are to be able to relive those moments. We, as his daughters, know how very fortunate we were to have a father who always made family his main priority. He was always there for us. He had a very strong sense of community, which will always be marked by two plaques which bear his name in Rotary Park. Michael was very active in the Crescent Heights community where he lived for over 29 years. He was involved with the Crescent View newsletter, community clean-up and barbeques to name a few. We were all blessed with the strong sense of family we inherited from Michael and we hoped to show him that we were there for him when he needed us. His daughters and granddaughter were by his side throughout his cancer treatments, and he was surrounded by family and friends in the final weeks of his life. He will be deeply missed by so many. A Celebration of Michael’s Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca
