Floyd was born in Edmonton and grew up on the family farm at Meeting Creek, AB. After high school, like many young men of that era, he enlisted in the R.C.A.F., serving overseas from 1943-1946. After his discharge, Floyd worked for Imperial Oil for a short time and with Underwood Typewriters, Lethbridge, AB. In 1949, he started a new career with Canadian Natural Gas (now ACTO), retiring in 1982 after 33 years of service. Floyd was always actively involved serving as a volunteer with many organizations. He was very much a people person, valued his friends and had many life-long relationships. Floyd always appreciated the visits and phone calls from his friends during his illness. He loved nature and enjoyed the times he could spend in the mountains, especially the Kananaskis and Jasper areas. Floyd also travelled to England, Ireland and Europe. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy (Nan); two nephews, Doug Vickey, Kamloops and Roger (Brenda), Surrey; a niece, Lucy Hagan, Kelowna and their families as well as cousins in Alberta, Eastern Canada and USA. The family would like to thank the staff and social workers at Bethany for the excellent care given to Floyd and his family. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Bethany Care Centre, 916 18A Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1C6.
A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
