March 2, 1944 – May 23, 2012
It is with a profound sense of loss and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend Evelyn at the age of 68 years. Evelyn passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Evelyn was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Steve and Annie Kopeck where she was raised with her three sisters and one brother and met her true love, Duane, in 1963. In 1965, Evelyn and Duane were married and in their early years resided in Regina, Calgary and Rainbow Lake before settling in Calgary in 1972. Evelyn was a creative and artistic woman who enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking and gardening. She shared her love of these activities through teaching many family and friends her skills. Many of Evelyn’s loved ones have their homes beautified by her creations. More than her creations, Evelyn will be remembered for her loving, caring and generous nature as well as her indomitable spirit. Evelyn’s memory will be cherished by those that survive her including her loving husband Duane of forty-six years; her children Shelley Bendiktsen (Ken) and Ted (Cheryl); three grandchildren Samantha, Matthew and Megan, her mother Annie, sisters Irene Knox and Margaret Wilson and brother Steve (Janet) Kopeck. Evelyn is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her father Steve Kopeck and sister Eleanor (Bill) Luciak. Evelyn’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the medical team and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Foothills Hospital and the Carewest Sarcee Hospice. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 1566 Northmount Drive NW, Calgary, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyn’s honour directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
