Duane passed away peacefully on March 8, 2019 surrounded by family and friends at the Foothills Hospital. He was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan to Charles and Anna Brooks where he was raised. Duane became a Certified Engineering Technologist, graduating from the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw in 1963. It was in Moose Jaw, Duane met the love of his life, Evelyn and where they married in 1965. In their early years they lived in Regina, Calgary, and Rainbow Lake before settling permanently in Calgary in 1972. Throughout his life, Duane was committed to the community, his church, and especially his family. Duane was a life-long learner with a broad interest in sciences, mathematics, and astronomy. Duane loved to share his knowledge with others in a lively, spirited, often humorous manner.
More than his knowledge, Duane will be remembered for his loving and caring nature. Duane’s memory will be cherished by those that survive him including his children Shelley Bendiktsen (Ken) and Ted (Cheryl); three grandchildren Samantha, Matthew and Megan. Duane is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn in 2012, his parents and sister Marilyn.
Duane’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Jane Loehr, Dr. Catherine McKenna and the staff on Unit 62 at Foothills Hospital.
