On Thursday, March 23rd, 2017 the light in our world grew appreciably dimmer and the music fainter, as Doreen Webb embarked on her last and greatest adventure. She is missed already by her son Bill (Joan), Richard (Nurgul) and Jim (Lorri); eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother in law J.R (Jim) Webb; sister in law Billie Webb; numerous treasured nieces and nephews; two very special nieces Joan Beck and Joanne Luoma; and a legion of loving friends. Doreen was predeceased by her parents, her sister Margaret, her brother Maurice (Dick) and her loving husband C.T (Bill) Webb in 1991. Born in Lethbridge in 1923 to Richard and Beatrice Hincks, she spent all but two years of her long and matchless life in Calgary. A trained soprano, music became a passion and avocation which never waned. From solo performances entertaining the troops during World War Two, to church choirs, madrigal chorales and barbershop ensembles, she quite literally sang her way through life. Well into her 90th year, she could be found adding her voice to the Garrison Manor choir. Whether this dedication to music was the catalyst giving rise to harmony in her life, or was in fact the inevitable result of a God-given, innate harmony, the undeniable fact is, she shone. She sought the sun, and viewed life through a blessed lens which permitted her to see only light, color, beauty and humor. Doreen looked to find only the good, the just, and the wonder of people and nature. She was convinced that the world would return her abundant trust and love in kind. And it did. She raised her voice in song, she raised her family in love and faith, and she raised the bar for all of us in defining the meaning of living a worthy, caring, and sharing life. There are few people among us blessed to be loved by literally all those whose lives he or she touched. Doreen was one of them. Bravissimo, Mom! In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Calgary Humane Society 4455 110 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2C 2T7. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Memorial Service held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
