Besides his much-loved wife of 53 years, he is survived by their two children and six grandchildren by birth and marriage: daughter Issabel “Christa” and husband Owen Temple and their children Shane, Connor, and Gavin; son Robert and wife Angie McAllister and their children Emily, Aidan, and Liam; nephews Bill (Darlene) Slunt, Michael (Judy) McAllister, Robert Slunt, Stephen (Susan) Slunt and their families; sisters-in-law and husbands, Judy (Peter) Armstrong, Jeannie (Larry) Thiessen, and June (Brent) Jespersen and their families, as well as incredible neighbours and friends of 50 years Rick and Norma Shalansky and Nancy Toby.
Donald was predeceased by his parents Robert and Isabelle McAllister; sister Jean, her husband Walter Slunt and their daughter Lynn; brother William “Bill” and his wife Dorothy McAllister and their daughter Debbie; brothers James McAllister and John McAllister; father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Ruth Spady; and adored Aunt-in-law and Uncle in law (and stand in parents) Robert “Bob” and Mary Walker.
Donald lost both of his parents at a young age and was lovingly cared for by his older siblings going to live with his brother Bill and wife Dorothy whom he loved. He began working at age 17 at Exchanger Industries where he retired 48 years later after a long career as a Purchasing Manager. He enjoyed many good friendships made during his time there where he dedicated himself and earned respect from those that knew him. He reminisced often of his days growing up in Manchester, Calgary with his lifelong friends Nick and Laverne Francis, Bruce and Loraine Debnam, Gary Meyers and Ronnie Rasmussen. He was a kind and quiet man with a devious sense of humour and incredible patience for a good practical joke.
He will be missed by all who knew him and forever remembered with love. A gathering of remembrance will be planned in the warmer months to come.
