Derek Johnson age 73 years, passed away Sunday, December 11 from complications related to kidney disease and diabetes. He spent last summer battling and overcoming cancer. Derek is survived by his wife Shirley, daughters Shannon Christensen (Konrad, Zoe), Daphne Brashear (Stephen), Lyndsay Presthofer (Andreas, Heidi), and son Matt Johnson (Crystal Gooley). Derek was born to Clarence (Red) and Mary Johnson. He attended school in Penhold, Strathmore, Calgary, U of C and U of A. He had many different job interests but chose to attend law school and obtained his law degree in 1973. Derek treasured the friends he made during his university years. He first practiced law in Innisfail; where his love for the game of golf began. He was able to turn his passion into a second career in designing and constructing golf courses. He returned to practicing law in Calgary and continued to work until recently. His favorite pastimes were; talking, watching and playing hockey, having coffee with friends, and treasured moments with his grandkids. A special thank you to Dr. Hons, Dr. Monson, Dr. Quan, and staff at the PLC ICU for the wonderful care received. Derek is also survived by his sister Donna (Cy) Little, brothers Wayne (Ann) Johnson, Gary Johnson, and many extended family members. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, December 17, 2016. 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
