Cornelia "Cory" Fodchuk

With heavy hearts and after a courageous battle with cancer, we announce the passing of Cory Fodchuk on Monday, December 16th, 2024, with her family by her bedside at the Arthur Child Cancer Center at the age of 75.

She is survived by her sons Michael and Stephen, her sister Patti Weldon (Kevin Taylor), brothers John, Henry and Gerry Garvey, her nieces Ashley and Ainsley and nephews Austin, Ben and Matthew along with numerous cousins and extended family and her grandchildren Haddie and Harry. She is predeceased by her parents John “Jack” and Seena Garvey.

Cory was born on May 14th, 1949, in Medicine Hat to Jack and Seena Garvey. While very young they moved to Churchill and The Pas, Manitoba and then spent the majority of her school days in Winnipeg growing up with The Garvey Clan on Rita Street. After finishing her Nursing Degree, she moved to Toronto to work at the SickKids Pediatric Hospital for several years, before moving on to Calgary. Cory married Orest Fodchuk, and they had two sons, Michael & Stephen who were raised in NW Calgary. She was a devoted mother to her boys and a proud nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Foothills Hospital for over 30 years, where she took amazing care of thousands of premature babies. Cory enjoyed skiing, curling, gardening and camping with her family & friends. She was delighted to support her boys in all their sports and activities growing up. She was also a very proud grandmother of Haddie and Harry, sharing many travel adventures together.

A Celebration of Cory’s Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
