Charles was born November 4, 1926 at Wigan, East Great Britain. His family immigrated to Canada on February 9, 1930 and settled in Coleman, AB where Charles spent most of his childhood. He joined the Navy and served in WWII. After the war, Charles returned to Coleman and married Rose Martland (nee Monti) on April 23, 1949. They had three sons and moved to Calgary, AB in 1954 where he spent the remainder of his life. His passions were fishing, hunting and camping.
Charles is lovingly remembered by his sons Norm (Cheryl), Rick (Michelle) and Bruce (Sonya) Martland; seven grandchildren, Lindsay, Karen, Heather, Kendra, Melissa, Nicole, and Nikita and one great grandchild, Molly. He is also survived by his nephew Curtis (Deanna) Monti and girls, as well as by numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Rose Martland; father William Martland; mother Margaret Martland (nee Bevan) and sister Lillian Lloyd (nee Martland).
The family wishes to give special thanks to Jeanette Monti, sister-in-law to Charles, for all the years of caring for our father and giving him much happiness and the best quality of life. Also thanks to Dr. Cole, Dr. Slawnych and the staff of the Cardiac Function Clinic and Palliative Care.
He faced the last years of his life with humour, resolve and stoicism that inspired us all. He will be sorely missed by all his family, friends and neighbours.
Due to the Pandemic, no service will be held at this time.
