Cathy was born on August 17, 1958 in Calgary to her wonderful parents, Grant and Aggie Cummins, who were with us until January 10, 2020 and May 1, 2017 respectively.
Cathy attended Brebeuf and St. Vincent de Paul schools and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1976.
It was this year she met Bruce at Gulf Oil Canada, their first jobs after school. They had many great times with friends from Gulf Oil. Still friends today.
Cathy and Bruce married March 8, 1980 and had just taken possession of their first home in Beddington where they made lifetime friends on their Placer’s slow pitch team.
They also had great times with Bruce’s childhood friends. Still friends today.
Cathy and Bruce moved to their current home in Varsity in 1990.
Although a stay-at-home mum for the most part, Cathy began helping so often at the kids’ school that she decided to take her Teacher’s Assistant Certificate and began working at the School, again making more friends.
Cathy enjoyed trips to Liverpool, Dublin, Rome, Vancouver, Quebec City and the East Coast and various U.S. destinations, but always couldn’t wait to get back home to the kids.
She also enjoyed the trips to Grant and Aggie’s lot at Juniper Heights near Invermere, then for all these years at Pine Lake. Cathy could often be found enjoying visits around the campfire ‘til the wee hours of the morning.
She absolutely loved watching the kids’ ball games and quite often was the designated score keeper.
Cathy enjoyed many scrapbooking retreats and coffee dates as well as dancing the night away at many weddings and surprise parties. She was fun-loving and had a marvelous sense of humour. Cathy was so thrilled to be at Chantelle and Bob’s wedding just last November.
Unfortunately, in June 1995, she was diagnosed with leukemia. She was in remission until 1998 when the cancer returned and she received a bone marrow transplant that February. After 4 healthy years, the cancer returned in late 2002, but Cathy met this challenge and was fortunate to again find another bone marrow match. Cathy remained leukemia free all these years.
Cathy is survived by her loving family; Bruce, her husband of 42 years, and children Melissa (Jamie) and their 4 children, Emma-Lee, Sophie, Noah and Lilly, Chantelle (Bob) and Adam and his girlfriend Cristina and her boys, Braxton and Quinton.
She is survived by her older siblings Terri and Dave (Lorna) and by her younger brother Bill (Silvana) and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cathy is predeceased by her first daughter (Lora 1981) and by her brother-in-law Bill (Terri).
