Carrie is survived by her children, Ashley (Cory) and Trent Johnston, father, David Stoesz, siblings; Sheila (James) Sagart, Kevin (Elida) Stoesz and Katelyn Stoesz, and a large extended family of people all around the world related by blood and affection.
Carrie had an intelligent, creative mind and did nothing by halves. When earning her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary she was on the dean’s list every year and decided to do her Masters in Music Education from Western Canada University just for “fun.”
Carrie’s goal was mastery in everything she did and everything she played, from piano and woodwinds to brass instruments and ukuleles. During her four and half decades as a teacher, her mission was to train others in the tools to master music themselves. This same desire for mastery made her an intuitive and amazing pianist who, with a bit of work, could play almost anything you put in front of her. Her skill with difficult rhythms was legendary. Carrie’s piano playing began at age of 7, expanded into playing at church in her hometown, and then on to many churches, choirs, and community organizations, including events for the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and accompanying the group Tenore in concert. She was also an excellent seamstress, wall painter and trimmer and adored multidisciplinary approaches to everything because that was where creativity soared.
Carrie was loving and hospitable to everyone, freely giving of her goods, gifts and time to anyone without hesitation. She was a force to be reckoned with and never afraid to tell you her opinion because she felt you deserved to know the truth.
She was a loving, spunky woman who sought mastery in all things and loved God above all else.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Centre Street Church Chapel (3900 2 St NE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 am. The service will be live streamed through https://cschurch.ca/stoesz.
