Carey was born on April 27, 1964 in Chilliwack, BC, where he lived and went to school until his family moved to Calgary, AB in 1980. It was in Calgary where he married, started a family and built the house of his dreams. Carey was an avid reader and loved spending time outdoors on his acreage where he enjoyed archery, his garden and playing hockey on the nearby pond.
Carey was a humble, loving, caring, kind-hearted, and helpful man who always found a way to get along with everyone.
Family was everything to Carey, especially his two sons, Jorin and Keelan, who he was so proud of. Carey also had a soft spot for animals and raised everything from rabbits and guinea pigs to goats and dogs.
Another passion of Carey’s was woodworking - there wasn’t much he couldn’t design or build. After working for a number of years at Calgary Millwork, Carey and his father, Manfred, decided to open their own cabinetmaking business, Mantei Woodcraft, in 1985. Carey’s business successfully operated until 2019, when he decided to retire.
Carey leaves behind his two sons, Jorin and wife (Maria) and granddaughter (Blair), son Keelan and wife (Alison), sister Juanita and husband (Allan), brother Mark and wife (Lore) as well as niece Donna and husband (Edward) and their children Chelsea and Keira, niece Sandra and husband (Jordan) and their children Madison and Zebedee, nephews Joshua and Ben, and nieces Amy and Sarah, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is predeceased by his loving parents, Manfred and Meta Mantei, and twin nieces. Carey loved and treasured his family and he will forever be in their hearts.
