Beverley Ann Polan

It is with unrelenting sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mom, Beverley Ann Polan, beloved wife of the late Leonard Polan. She passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta, with her children at her side. Bev was born in Montreal (nee Monk) and moved to Vancouver and then to Calgary to pursue better opportunities for her family. Bev’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and she was very proud of all of them.

She is survived by her children, Graham (Marie) Laurie (Rob) and Brenda (Wilf); her grandchildren, Danielle, Renae, Andrea, Camille, Greg, Kimberley, Caitlyn and Josh as well as her brother Bob (Cheri), sisters-in-law Peggy, Bernice and Maureen and many treasured nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Len, her grandson, Brandon, sister Lorna, brother John and son-in-law, Rick and numerous other relatives and friends that are awaiting reunion with her in Heaven.

A wonderful life that was cut short by a battle with Alzheimer’s and then Covid-19. Even with Alzheimer’s, she was able to draw on memories from the past and laugh and enjoy recounting times with Len or others. Bev found happiness through enjoying other’s successes and good times more than her own. She loved to hear about any achievements, holidays, adventures or even just plans that friends and family may have and really enjoyed sharing in any pictures or recollections. She truly treasured the many cruises that took her to faraway places and cherished the time with each of those friends that she travelled with. An eager and dedicated sports fan, she was loving and supportive when watching her children, but certainly wasn’t hesitant to share some wisdom and ideas any time she felt it necessary. She enjoyed watching and attending Flames games and truly enjoyed meeting Gordie Howe! She was wonderful to, and accepting of, all our spouses and quickly considered them a part of the family, although they were not immune from receiving her guidance either! Golf brought Bev and Len many years of companionship, competition, joy and frustration but she loved it and made many new friends playing the game. Bev and Len had a cottage at Hidden Valley Golf Resort and really enjoyed their time together there, where they savored visits from family and friends.

Bev was an independent and successful small business owner for years and went above and beyond to build relationships and be as good to her customers as possible. Customers often became friends and they had long relationships based on trust and loyalty. This provided Bev the ability to stay in her own home long after Len had passed away and a place where customers could come to pick up product and visit.

Bev was blessed to have some truly wonderful friends. Those that made the effort to visit with her even after moving to her new home were appreciated more than they will ever know, and her weekly hair appointments were very much missed. Her many years of involvement with Huntington Hills Pioneers brought her friendships, card games and wonderful outings.

The family is truly thankful for the dignified and compassionate care provided by the staff of Unit 68 at South Health Campus. A celebration of Bev’s life will be held at a later date when friends and family are able to gather. We love you, Mom.
