April 15, 1944 – February 11, 2011
Barbara, beloved wife of Beverly Roy Smith of Calgary, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, with her family at her side, at the age of 66 years, after a lengthy battle with kidney disease. Besides Bev, she is survived by her cherished three daughters, Wendy (Bruce), Gwen and Pam and seven very special granddaughters; Holly, Rebecca, Jackie, Stephanie, Tessa, Alanah and Brynn. Barb was the youngest of five children and will also be sadly missed by her sisters Sheila, Florence and Donna; and her brother Doug. Born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Barb moved to Calgary as a teenager. With the exception of a short time in Fort St. John and Edmonton, she lived there all of her life. Barb and Bev were married in 1967 and would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary this summer. Barb was an intelligent, kind and thoughtful woman who gave freely of herself to family and friends and her passing will leave a void in all who knew her. Her family would like to express their deepest thanks to the Northlands Hemodialysis Unit and in particular to Dr. Samuel Schorr and Viola; Dr. Sheila Scott; Cochrane Home Care Nurses, and her special caregiver Debbie. You all took such care with Barb and we are very grateful. A private family service will be held. Barb asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada and Southern Alberta, 6007 – 1A Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 0G5. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
