Antal "Tony" Istvan Peszneker passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta Canada on February 10, at the age of 86. He is preceded in death by his parents Karoly and Rosa of Budapest Hungary, his older brother Karoly and wife Anna of Lethbridge, Alberta. Tony is survived by his three children, oldest son Charles and his wife Stella, youngest son Tony Jr. and wife Carolyn from Richfield Minnesota, daughter Priscilla and husband Chris. He was blessed with four grandchildren, CJ, Ryon, Trevor and Rachel, brother Julius and wife Helen and their children Klara, Judy and Husband Tim and Julius Jr.
Tony was born in Budapest Hungry on February 18, 1929. He was an accomplished athlete competing in numerous sports but flourished in both volleyball and soccer. He immigrated to Canada in December 1956 escaping the communist takeover during the Hungarian revolution. After brief stays in Penticton and Princeton BC, he finally settled in Calgary where he joined his younger brother and family. In Calgary, Tony started work at Hi Lite Printing which was his trade and continued in the business for 30+ years. He was a member of the Hungarian Society in which he directed many plays, musicals, operettas and participated in many authentic Hungarian dance performances. He was a youth soccer coach for many years starting in the community of Acadia where his love and passion for sports and children was very evident. He was a very down to earth person who was very dedicated to his family as evidenced by the many family summer vacations to Penticton. He was truly a role model to his family and friends and will always be missed but never forgotten! The family would like to thank all of Tony's caregivers that helped to put a smile on his face and always kept him comfortable.
A Celebration of Life with Visitation prior to the service will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Tony’s memory directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, #200, 325 Manning Rd NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
