The Honorable Consul Emeritus, Amund Jonassen OStJ, ROStO, KCPR, KCLJ, MMLJ, KCCM 1915-2012, slipped away peacefully February 8th after a life of public service: being a part of the Norwegian Kings Guard, a Norwegian underground agent, Naval Air Force Captain/Commander in WWII, extensive community service, Honorary Norwegian Consul Calgary, CEO of the Calgary Downtown Business Association and lifetime Calgary Stampede volunteer to name a few.
Amund leaves behind his loving wife of 69 years, Joan Margaret Bullen Jonassen, children Paul R. Jonassen (Maggie), Kari Jonassen Tiedemann (Carl), Dr. E. Andrew Jonassen (Rosemary) and Pamela Ann Jonassen, all of whom have been prominent at times in Calgary Life. He will also be sadly missed by grandchildren Peter Paul Jonassen, Arane Jonassen, Larissa Jonassen, Brice Jonassen, Kai Jonassen, Anthony Parker, #86 with the Calgary Stampeders and four great-grandchildren, Madison, Sophia, Mia and Abrielle.
Consul Emeritus Jonassen was the epitome of an honorable man and a life well lived. A memorial service will be held later in the year and will be announced.
