Allan was born in Elk Hill Saskatchewan, August 4, 1934 and was raised on a farm in Torch River with his seven other siblings. It was in Torch River where he met his wife Joyce, a romance budding at the local curling rink. They were married December 28, 1957 and continued to curl together for many years to come.
In the early years of their marriage, Allan and Joyce travelled the country while Allan worked on construction crews. They eventually settled in Calgary and Allan went to work for Firestone, building tires. Being such a hardworking reliable employee, Allan was one of the last remaining employees kept on until they finally closed the plant. Allan then went to work for Hardy Associates until his retirement shortly after Joyce’s death. During his retirement, Allan found great joy returning to his roots back in Torch River travelling there every spring and fall for seeding and harvest. He happily worked alongside his brother Steve and nephew Rick until his body failed him and he was no longer able to lend a hand. He always missed the trips back but loved to chat with Rick and hear all the news from back home.
Allan and Joyce remained in Calgary for the majority of their married life raising their three children. They spent many happy summers camping and travelling back to the farm in Torch River, always providing love and support for their children and grandchildren. Grandpa was always there to watch and cheer at all sporting events whenever able. Throughout their married life, Allan and Joyce were active members of Northmount Baptist Church working with youth and on church boards. Following Joyce’s death, Allan continued to remain active in the church and was always there to lend a hand, an ear or offer a ride.
Allan will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Karla (Alister); son Kent (Stacey); as well as by his grandchildren Daniel (Jessica), Heather, Megan and Andrew; as well as sisters and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins and wonderful friends. Allan was predeceased by his parents Alice and Harvey; his wife Joyce; daughter Kenda and his seven siblings.
