She was the beloved wife of Arthur “Art” Woolgar, who predeceased her in June 2003. She is survived by two sons, Ross (Caroline) and Glenn (Sherry); six grandchildren, Stacey, Shaun, Tamara, Brock, Kyle and Zoe; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Wyatt, Weston and Wynter. Alice Winder was born in Sussex, England and came to Canada in 1912 with her family on the ship “Corsican”. They arrived in Montreal and took the train to Moose Jaw where the family lived for 42 years. Art’s family, neighbours of the Winders, also emigrated from Sussex and once again became neighbours in Moose Jaw in 1913. Life-long friends, Alice and Art married in Grace Church, Moose Jaw in 1939. Alice was trained as a milliner and worked at Joyners store in Moose Jaw prior to their marriage. When Art was offered a position with Canada Post in Calgary, they decided to move the family in 1954. Once settled, they both became very active with St. Matthew’s United Church, and Alice served on the UCW for many years. She also volunteered at the Sarcee Nursing Home for over 30 years. Throughout her life, Alice had many hobbies: camping, traveling, crocheting, bridge and singing in the church choir. The family would like to thank the staff at the Bowview Manor for their dedicated care and loving attention to Alice. Special thanks also to Jean Kensit for her compassion and companionship.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Matthew’s United Church, 2035 – 26A St. S.W. at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2013. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to St. Matthew’s United Church. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
