March 9, 1935 – June 17, 2018
Alfred Wegener passed away peacefully, in Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the age of 83 years.
Al was born in Berlin, Germany on March 9, 1935 and came to Canada at the tender age of 21. In Ottawa he met and married Lorraine Stoyles in 1961. Along with their two young children they moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1968. Al and Lorraine owned and operated Calgary Driving School until Al’s retirement in 2000. Al enjoyed playing his guitar, working on cars and puttering in the garden. He was a quiet, but thoughtful person, always ready with a joke or a smile for his grandchildren.
Al will be lovingly remembered by his caring and attentive wife, Lorraine; his son Kurt (Shelly); and his three grandchildren, Evan, Marlo and Natasha. He is predeceased by his daughter Darlene.
Lorraine Wegener would like to especially thank Dr. Farhan Khan and the staff at both the Chinook and the Bethany Care Centers for their help and care with Alfred’s last days.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
