Agnes (Nessie) Laird

Nessie was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on the 28th of April, 1927. She and her husband Duncan Clark Laird and their family immigrated to Calgary in 1966. They worked hard to support their large family and Nessie’s last job before retirement was as a supervisor at the Northern Telecom Facility in N.E. Calgary. She definitely had leadership skills.

She is survived by her children Margaret (Dougie Archibald), Pat MacDougall (Pete), Maureen Springer (Egon), Duncan Laird Jr (Mari-Lou), Alison Guay, Karen Hagel (Murray), Paul Laird, Scott Laird (Carolin Rekar-Munro); her family in the UK - sister Sarah Garrity, brother and his wife Tam and Bette McKay, sister-in law Mags McKay, brother-in-law Marcus Laird and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nessie has 12 grandchildren Michael, Andrew, Ally, Erin, Neil, Michelle, Dwane, Alyssa, Megan, Adam, Nigel and Aidan; and 9 great-grandchildren Sierra, Shylynn, Skyla, Catherine, Michelle, Hudson, Adley, Nash, Braxton and another one on the way in November.

Nessie was predeceased by her husband Duncan in 1995 and daughter Gillian Laird in 2022. She was also predeceased by her siblings Peggy McKay, Mary Ferguson, Hugh McKay, and Bill McKay.

Nessie loved to travel, listen to music, and dance. She lived a remarkable life with too many stories to tell.

There will be a private interment at Queen’s Park Cemetery on Friday, October 11th, 2024.
