Teddy Steven Lewis, or “Ted,” as he was known by his family and friends, was born July 7, 1945 in Grand Rapids, MI to Steven Clark Lewis and Vera (De Forrest) Lewis. He was a believer in Jesus and was baptized in 1966. He passed away at home October 31, 2024.
He was a 1964 graduate of Kelloggsville High School and lived in a variety of locations on the south side of Grand Rapids throughout his life.
He drove a truck on a regional route for Carpenter Paper Company (later Xpedx) for 33 years until his retirement, then drove for Caledonia Public Schools for 10 years. He loved to interact and joke with the regulars on his route.
When his grandchildren joined the family, he said they gave him a new reason to live. He was generous and helpful as a babysitter in the early years and was a regular presence on the bleachers at their sporting events as they got older.
He enjoyed cars and loved to share them with his son and family. He would often insist they take his newest vehicle on a road trip they were planning.
In his later years he would get exercise by walking around in local grocery stores. He loved to be generous and when made aware of a need he was eager to donate money or offer the use of his truck.
He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and great-uncle.
Ted is survived by his son, Jamie (Jodi) Lewis; grandchildren Dmitry Lewis, Aleksei (Macailin) Lewis, and Alia Lewis; sister, Sally (John) Ruth; nephews Brad (Kelly) Ruth, Dustin (Rebecca) Ruth; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was carried out at Ted’s request and the family will celebrate his life privately. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guestbook online.
