Sarah Steenwyk, age 98, went to be with her Lord Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Steenwyk; grandson, Scott Silvernail; and siblings Gertrude Klingenberg, Adrianna Rooks, Ike Koeman, and Steven Koeman.
Sarah will be lovingly remembered by her children Roger Steenwyk, Karen and Jack Silvernail, Al and Sher Steenwyk, Linda Steenwyk and friend Anthony Homrich, Donna and David Westhouse; grandchildren Kelly Silvernail, Kristi and Chad Moll, Amy Steenwyk, Dan Steenwyk, Sarah Westhouse, Nick and Danielle Westhouse, Stacy and Mike Nuiver, Emily and Tyler Piersma; great-grandchildren Abby and Madison Moll, Lenora Silvernail, and two on the way; brother-in-law, Lewis Steenwyk; sister-in-law, Anette Steenwyk; and many nieces and nephews.
Sarah enjoyed her life as a housewife – cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She loved her kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren dearly. Sarah loved to travel, especially winters in Nettles Island, and she went on cruises, visited all 50 states, visited Europe, and enjoyed going about in the motorhome. Detroit Tigers baseball was another passion of Sarah’s; she loved going to the spring training games down in Florida and watching games on TV.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at First Byron Christian Reformed Church, 8541 Byron Center Ave. SW, Byron Center, Michigan, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Rev. Ron Noorman will officiate. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Benjamin’s Hope, 15468 Riley St., Holland, Michigan, where her special and dearly loved granddaughter Amy lives.
