Peter graduated from Wyoming Lee High School in 1963. He played baseball at Hope College and earned his master's degree in education from Grand Valley State University. He enjoyed teaching middle school science and spent 32 years at East Grand Rapids Middle School. Peter was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He grew Christmas trees and was the best gardener you ever met. He enjoyed sports, telling stories, traveling, going to the casino, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted coach, husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Ruth Haverkamp; brother, Jack Haverkamp; sister, Ruth Kohl; and his wife of 56 years, Myra Haverkamp. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Dave Haverkamp; children Pete (Beth) Haverkamp, Jen (Bret) Bakita; four grandchildren Jonathon, William (Taylor), Nick, and Maddie; plus his many nieces and nephews.
