John Robinson Winters, of Byron Center, died peacefully Monday, July 8, 2024 at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Kathryn Winters of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Linda Rector of Akron, OH. He is survived by his wife, Anita Winters; daughter, Rebecca (David) Wiltjer; son, Jonathan (Gretchen) Winters; grandchildren Annalise and Jacob Wiltjer, and Julian and Tristan Winters; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was born in Detroit, MI and raised on the north side of Grand Rapids, MI. John regaled those around him with stories of his passion for running and sports as he grew up, and shared that passion for many years with both of his children. After high school, John served his country on a med ship - USS Repose in Vietnam. Once back from Vietnam, he went to college and ultimately worked as an accountant for a career. He worked multiple positions with many different companies until he finished more than the last decade of his career as Vice President of Finance and Administration at Serv-u-Success in Grandville, MI. John would tell anyone who would listen how he worked to use technology and innovation in the late 1990s and 2000s to help build Serv-u-Success from a small company to a multi-state distribution network.
In retirement, John and Anita traveled in their RV and spent time in both Florida and Michigan. His favorite place was to spend time by the beach in New Smyrna Beach, FL. John’s ultimate passion in retirement was his grandchildren, and loved spending time with them, and encouraging them when they were young.
Per John’s wishes, a private celebration of life service will held. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guest book online.
