On Friday, December 20, 2024, Ellen Jeanette Sabin (Ebels) was welcomed into the arms of Jesus after battling Alzheimer’s and a brain hemorrhage. Ellen absolutely adored her Lord and Savior and lived her passion for Christ by loving her family so well. Her family meant everything to her and she cared, nurtured, and shared her faith with them compassionately. Ellen had a gift of hospitality, and she used this gift during her 34 years serving as hostess at the Cutlerville Russ’ restaurant. If you entered her home, she would always ask if family, friends, and guests needed anything. Ellen also had a big heart for supporting Christian schools and missions, especially as she took care of her young children so her husband, Ronald, could spend time in Puerto Rico on a mission field and building and working at Grace Youth Camp (Grace Adventures). Ellen’s wish was that everyone would recognize the love of Jesus and the hope of salvation through Him and commit their lives to Christ. She desperately wanted to reunite with them again in Heaven someday.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Beatrice Ebels; in-laws Alfred and Olga Sabin; siblings John and Luella Ebels, Gladys Stringham, and June and Ralph Lettinga; sisters- and brothers-in-law Alfred and Dorothy Sabin, Robert and Helen Sabin, Hank and Tula Mull, Dave and Carol Ratering, and Joyce Sabin; and great-granddaughter, Lydia Sabin. She will be lovingly missed by her husband of 65 years, Ronald; and three children, 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren Ron and Melanie Sabin (Brandon and Karla Sabin and Calisse and Daniella; Ryan and Kelly Sabin and Evelyn, Charlotte, and new baby in February; Mckenna and Sam Schubkegel and Selah, Eden, and Leo), Sue and Ryan Thomasma (Dan and Olivia Weller and Sylvia; Ashley Thomasma), and Rachel and Randy Harkema (Matthew, Jordan and Abby, Katie, and Kelsey Harkema). Ellen will be missed by many family members of the Ebels and Sabin families, as well as many lifelong friends and members of Berean Bible Church and Rush Creek Bible Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Butterworth Hospital and Faith Hospice for their love, care, and support they gave Ellen and her family the past week. The Sabin family would love to greet family and friends as they celebrate Ellen’s life. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 30 at Rush Creek Bible Church, 2334 76th St. SW, Byron Center, with visitation prior to the service from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Blain Cemetery around 2 p.m. In honor of Ellen’s life and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Adventures. Ellen's family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guestbook online.
