William Joel "Bill" Johnson

The funeral for Bill will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 29 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral home with Doug Lindley officiating. Those named as pallbearers are Will Johnson, Jason Ross, Jacob Arnold, Mike McDaniel, James Nesom, Dwaine Knight, Chris Pounds and Edward Snider.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Robert Preston Johnson and Gertrude (Gilbert) Johnson, his son Joel Thomas Johnson and daughter Pennie Lynn Johnson and brother Robert “Bob” Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Karen Sue Gore Johnson, son Johnny Dean Johnson (Lesley), three daughters Cynthia Ross (Edward Snider), Catherine Knight (Dwaine), and Cheryl Pounds (Chris). Also surviving are grandchildren Will (Amberly), Cherokee (Brook), Jennifer, Jason (Chanelle), Jordan, Jaclyn, Justine, Cheyenne (Mike), Jacob (Caitlin), Symone and Savannah. 9 great grandchildren Gatsby, Guthrie, Michaela, Corbin, Ember, Grayson, Lexus, Hunter and Hollyn. Bill is also survived by his sisters Thelma and Nadine as well as nieces, nephew, and his many many friends, most especially Raymond Walston for his friendship and companionship to Bill even during his last few days.

Bill was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, camping, gardening, ranching and animals. He enjoyed cooking and even though we knew is his BBQ was the best, he had awards and trophies to show it was A+ for sure.

Bill loved watching Westerns, and football at all levels, always having the latest issue of Dave Campbell's Texas Football at his side by his easy chair so he could keep up with it all, from six-man all the way to the Pros. If Westerns and football was all that was on TV, then, well, that would have been just fine with him.

He was quite the comedian and jokester, possessing a sense of humor that could make an entire stadium erupt with laughter. Growing up in very humble beginnings he advocated others to do and be more no matter how they started in life. In his younger years he worked in the oil fields and later joined the Marines. After his service concluded he went on to continue helping others through kind words, mentorships, love, and of course laughter.

Bill strived to help anyone in need, whether it would be a tank of gas from the old Gulf station he owned and operated or serving on the bench as the Burnet County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace, or his service as Municipal Judge for the City of Burnet. He was a member of Valley Lodge No. 175 AF & AM.

As time went on, he saw the need for children to have a place to go and enrich their lives. So, during 90’s he raised funds to build a facility for the Burnet Police Activity League. In 2013 the building became part of the Boys and Girls Club of Burnet. In his honor the building was dedicate and named for him. Bill strove to pull everyone together to combine forces to see the city of Burnet grow and prosper.

Bill was man bigger than life, in size and in presence. He was selfless, loving, and a wonderful role model and without him our hearts will feel empty, but the love he shared with all of us will cradle our memories and keep us smiling towards the future.
