Sharon Kay Champlin Kirkham

Funeral services for Sharon Kay (Champlin) Kirkham, 57, of Somerville, are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Somerville with Rev. Corby Brizendine officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 25th at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Mrs. Kirkham died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

Sharon, as she was known to everyone, was born August 4, 1954 in Georgetown, the daughter of Lawrence Leroy and Rachel V. (Wiley) Champlin. She got her license as a hairdresser and was a homemaker for her husband, Billy R. Kirkham, whom she married on December 21, 1990 in Florence, Texas. Before Sharon became ill last year, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Somerville as a member of the Choir.

She is preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband, Billy Kirkham of Somerville; her mother, Rachel Champlin of Florence; her sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Todd and Linda Burkett of Kempner, Texas and Billy Ray Kirkham, Jr. and his wife, Melissa of Gallas, Washington; her daughter, Iris Burkett of College Station; her brothers, Vernon Eugene "Pete" Champlin, Allen Champlin, Leroy Champlin, and Joe Champlin; her sisters, Kathy Massey, Brenda Champlin, and Joy Bizzell; along with four grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Family members have requested that memorials in Sharon's name be made to the Memorial Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Somerville.
