Mildred Merline Monroe Johnson, age 90, of Burnet, Texas entered into God’s kingdom Tuesday June 27, 2023. She was born on November 1, 1932 in Van Zandt County, Texas to Millie and Sidney Monroe. She graduated from Austin High School in May of 1951.
Mildred met Floyd Johnson in elementary school and began courting in high school. Shortly after returning from Japan while in the Air Force, Mildred and Floyd eloped on May 29, 1953. They were later blessed with three beautiful daughters, Donna Janice, Debra Kay, and Dorothy Lee. Mildred and Floyd moved to Spicewood, Texas in 1977 and worked in administration for the state of Texas, until she retired.
Mildred cherished her church family at One Chapel Lake Travis formally known as Pedernales Valley Baptist Church in Spicewood and later enjoyed attending East Lake Fellowship near Lake Buchanan. During her time at PVBC, Mildred served on several boards, lead lady’s bible studies, and sang in the church choir. Throughout her entire life, she found joy doing missionary work by supporting churches in Mexico, most recently in Zapata, Texas.
Mildred was a proud lifelong Texan who loved UT football, fried catfish, iced coffee, the color pink, crafting, cooking, and getting her hair and nails done. She always put her family before herself, and Christ before all. She will always be remembered for her unwavering faith, unconditional love, and smile so bright it could light an entire city.
Mildred is lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, Floyd Johnson, her daughters and their husbands, Donna Janice and Victor Goertz, and Dorothy Lee and Richard Meacham, son-in-law David Davis, and her grandchildren Fredrick Goertz and wife Jennifer, Gregory Storey, Shauna Storey, Lisa Donaldson and husband Hugh, Alicia Lee and husband Rea, Kaylee LaManna, and great grandchildren Aliyah, Jasmine, Kaleb, Hailley, Ashlynn, Lexi, Grayson, Harley, and Nathaniel. She is also survived by her sisters Valla Henson and Zelma Moore and husband Preston.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents Sidney and Millie Monroe, daughter Debra Davis, her grandson, Richard Maldonado, her brother Orville Monroe and sister-in-law Charlotte Monroe, and brother-in-law Jim Henson.
A visitation will be held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 E Polk St, Burnet, Texas on Wednesday, July 5th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
