John Delmer “Del” Brown passed away on September 16, 2023, in Burnet, TX. Del was born and raised in Commerce, TX. He graduated from Commerce High School followed by Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1976 where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and president of the student body. Del founded his own home building company and subsequently operated his own construction consulting business in DFW and Austin, TX.
Del was an Eagle Scout and loved camping with his kids, especially if it was near a lake where they could all fish together. He loved being on the water whether it was in Galveston, TX near his parent’s house, boating or fishing on one of the Texas Highland lakes, or just at his best friend’s pool.
He loved building anything, from model rockets that would take a bad turn towards oncoming traffic, to greenhouses that would flood the entire house. He could fix anything and would guaranty you: “…it won’t take five minutes”.
He was a loving and engaged father and “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren. Dinner at his house was always an event and was never about the food but, rather, just laughing together, especially because dinner was never before 10pm. He LOVED facetiming with his granddaughters.
Del was preceded in death by his parents: Ina Mae and Delmer Brown, and brother, Danny M. Brown.
He leaves behind his wife, Ginny Atkinson; sister Karen Schaefer; brothers Bob Brown and wife Virginia, Christy Brown and wife, Debria; sons Shay Brown and wife Mirtha; Taylor Brown and wife Whitney; grandchildren Eddie and Gabe Perez, Bennie and Casey Brown, and Kelly and Lucy Atkinson."
